A blind-spot monitor is a driver-assist feature that alerts you when vehicles enter either of your blind spots. It's an all-but-standard feature on most of today's makes and models. Still, it's not as widely understood. What is it, and how does it work? Our Volvo Cars Pensacola team proudly serving Pensacola, FL breaks it down for you.
The Blind Spot Monitor 101
Depending on the make, model, or year, a blind spot monitor system might consist of sensors, lasers, and cameras. Mounted on the vehicle's exterior, the sensors, lasers or cameras can see/sense when other vehicles enter either of your blind spots. When the system detects vehicles in either of your blind spots, it issues a warning.
Blind Spot Monitor Warning Types
The blind-spot monitor warning might be visual, audial, or haptic. Some makes/models use a combination of visual/audio. The blind-spot monitor typically complements a rear cross-traffic alert feature. Using the same exterior sensors, lasers, or cameras, this feature alerts you to vehicles crossing behind you as you're backing up.
